12th National Workshop on Research Methodology in Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power

FMFP 2025 Pre-Conference CFD Workshop: A Grand Success

The five-day CFD Workshop, held from June 23–27, 2025, at Nirma University, served as a high-impact pre-conference event under FMFP 2025. Bringing together students, researchers, and faculty from across India, the workshop blended hands-on training with theoretical depth, spanning modern CFD techniques and experimental fluid mechanics.

.

🎓 Workshop Highlights:

  • Inaugural Address by Dr. A.M. Lakdawala, introducing fundamentals of fluid flow, discretization, and solving PDEs.

  • Keynote Lecture by Dr. Amit Agrawal (IIT Bombay), President, NSFMFP on “New Flow Physics” in microfluidics, focusing on the Knudsen number and bioscience applications.

  • Microchannel Fabrication Insights shared by Dr. N. K. Shah and Mr. Bruhad Naik, with live microscope-based demonstrations using soft lithography techniques.

  • Hands-on OpenFOAM Training led by Dr. Govind Maurya (IIT Bombay) and Dr. Abhishek Kumar (IIT Madras) covering:

    • Linux commands

    • Solver customization

    • Multiphase and non-Newtonian flows

    • Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI)

  • ANSYS Fluent & CFX Simulations, tackling:

    • Pipe flow

    • Lid-driven cavity

    • Flow over cylinders

    • Turbulent cooling of electronics

    • Turbomachinery modeling

🌟 Outcome

Participants praised the workshop for its practical relevance, depth of content, and expert instruction. The collaborative environment mirrored FMFP's broader goal: advancing fluid mechanics through innovation, sharing, and cross-disciplinary learning.
